Christmas Basket Silent Auction

The Friends of the Library Christmas Basket Silent Auction is back.

Silent bidding begins on Nov. 19 and will continue for three weeks until Friday, Dec. 7. Bidders should stop in often to check their bids as they try to win their favorite basket. This is a great way to support your library and do some Christmas shopping. All proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase of new books on CD.

December activities
The last week of children’s story times and music time for the season is Dec. 3 – 9. These children’s activities will resume in mid-January 2013.

Our last “early out” movie of the year is on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Join us for Christmas movie “Santa Buddies.”

Adults are encouraged to come to the library and get into the holiday spirit by joining Paula and Laura for a Christmas craft session on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

The annual City of Adel Holiday Open house is Friday, Dec. 7. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the library from 5 – 7 p.m. The Friends of the Library is sponsoring this visit, taking care of all of Santa’s reindeer, and offering face-painting and balloon art for kids of all ages.

Dallas County Conservation will bring exciting activities and artifacts to the library from the natural world for story time on Monday, Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m.

Our last Teen Time in 2012 is Monday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. Teens in grades 6 – 12 are encouraged to meet in our newly-expanded teen section and enjoy some time in your library.

The Brown Bag book club meets on Thursday, Dec. 13 to discuss a Christmas novel which will be announced soon. The Evening book club will discuss “Wishin` and Hopin’ ” by Wally Lamb on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m.

Come the library on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. and relax with a steaming mug of cocoa and a bag of popcorn while watching the classic movie “Holiday Inn” on our big screen.

December can be a stressful time and the Friends of the Library are here to help.  Friends will be on hand to gift wrap your Christmas presents for a free will donation while you look for something good to read. Gift wrapping is available during normal library hours from Monday, Dec. 10 to Friday, Dec. 21.
