Jon David “Dave” Turner, 71, died October 12, 2012, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
A visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Holy Trinity Lutheran church, in Ankeny. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, also at the church.
Dave was born June 30, 1941 to Bill and Mildred Turner, in Odebolt, Ia.
Dave was an outstanding athlete in high school, and was also active in music and drama. In scouting, he earned his God And Country award, Eagle Scout, and Order of the Arrow.
He graduated from high school in Sheldon, Ia and received a B.S. degree from the University of South Dakota. He then earned an M.A. degree from Michigan State University.
Dave was an educator in Iowa for 35 years. He was a teacher, and an elementary and middle school principal. He spent 13 years working in the Ankeny school system, and his last working 10 years in the East Union school district, in Afton, Ia.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years, and sang in the choir for many of those years. He loved hunting, fishing, and golfing with his sons-in-law, friends and grandsons.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Julie, his daughters; Judi (Tim) Hieb of Clive, Kris (Todd) Miler of West Des Moines, grandsons; David and Michael Hieb, brother, Jim (Carol) of Spokane, WA, six nephews, and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Dean Turner.
