New Hope

Posted October 03, 2012 in Adel, Community Featured

With renovations to the youth center complete, Pastor David Hickman of New Hope Church welcomes all Adel youth to come hang out in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

The newly-renovated youth center brings “New Hope” to kids in the community of Adel looking for a safe getaway or simply a relaxing and fun environment to hang out with friends. Graciously enough, New Hope Church wants everyone to know that this is a community effort.

“We want it to be known as a community area where kids can go for a safe, positive experience and build our faith together, and that doesn’t even necessarily only mean religious faith. Everyone is welcome,” says David Hickman, Pastor of Student Ministries at New Hope.

The youth center opened its doors in September 2006 and recently renovated over the summer. Since then it has become a popular haven for video games, music, pool, ping-pong, carpet ball, snacks and good conversation for teens in grades 6 – 12. The facility is open on Friday nights from 8 – 11 p.m., and anyone is welcome to drop by or stay and hang for a while.

“We want to break down the walls of ‘I’m Catholic,’ or ‘I’m Mormon,’ etc. and make sure everyone knows they’re welcome to enjoy this fun space,” says Hickman. “We would love for other churches in the area to take advantage of the space available at the youth center and use it to plan their own events as well.”

But if someone is looking for a church to call his or her own, Hickman reminds that New Hope’s youth groups have a great lineup of events planned throughout the fall, the first taking place on Nov. 2 – 3 with the middle school BLITZ over-nighter in Des Moines, which is similar to a traditional “progressive dinner” that includes an array of fun activities.

Youth will head to the city again for the high school IMPACT Conference Dec. 28 – 30. And to top it off, the high school seniors and college-aged youth will be traveling to Passion 2013 in Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 31 – Jan. 5 to focus on a community need that has yet to be determined. Previous topics have included human trafficking and the earthquake in Haiti.

For more information regarding the youth center, visit the Facebook page for New Hope Youth Center, or visit the New Hope Youth Group or New Hope Adel College/Young Adult pages for more information regarding BLITZ, IMPACT or Passion 2013. The church is located just east of town at 25712 Highway 6. All are welcome.
