Friends Prepare for Annual Book Sale

Posted September 26, 2012 in Community Featured, Boone

The Friends of the Ericson Public Library will hold their annual book sale on Oct.13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members of the Friends will be admitted at 9 a.m. for early bird shopping.

Memberships will be sold at the door, or you may join any time at the library. Ask at the desk for an application form. Individual memberships are $5 a year, and family memberships are $10 — a bargain any time.

In addition to books, the sale will include movies, music and puzzles. The sale will be full of bargains, so pick up items for the cold winter months.

The Friends do accept donations of clean, odor-free books, movies, music and puzzles.  People can make arrangements for pick up or leave their donations inside the door at the Seventh Street entrance to the library.

The Friends do not accept magazines and suggest people take them to the recycling center.  Encyclopedia sets and old text books also are not accepted.  Most are unsellable and take up much-needed space.  Current magazines from 2012 will be accepted for the magazine exchange shelf on the second floor of the library.

The Friends provide many of the “fun” things patrons enjoy at the library. They have recently purchased a new Thomas the Tank Engine train table for the children’s department  The used table will be sold by silent bid at the book sale.

All of the performers and prizes for the summer library programs are purchased with funds provided by the Friends.

Ongoing projects include Boone County Hospital baby packets for parents of newborns. The packets include information about early literacy, a board book and information about library services.  The organization also provides funds each year for Wilbor downloadable audio and ebooks, the TumbleBooks electronic library and the Auto Repair Reference Center, all available on the library website.

The Friends have also purchased laptops computers for public use in the library. Previously they have funded large-print books and environmentally-friendly book bags for library patrons.

This past year the Friends established an Endowment Fund to insure quality library service for future generations.

Join the Friends at the Book Sale and help support the library.
