Betty Brittin, 91, of Des Moines died September 23, 2012.
Betty was born May 7, 1921 in Virden, Illinois, to Saul and Cynthia Gasen. On September 17, 1939, she married Willard Don Brittin, the love of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Betty enjoyed family and friends, entertaining, fishing and traveling. She was thrilled to bowl a perfect game in her Wii bowling league a few months ago. She has been a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and longtime Drake University and University of Iowa sports fan. Betty’s friends and family will remember her for her strength, wisdom and love.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Don Brittin; son, W. Don Brittin Jr.; parents, Saul and Cynthia Gasen; one brother, Albert Gasen; and one sister, Mary Alexander.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Bradford (John) of Fort Myers, Florida and Betsy Brittin of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, William Withey (Katherine) of Olympia, Washington, Brit Withey (Ruth Tobias) of Denver, Colorado, Kate Sable (Jordan) of Toronto, Canada, David Withey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sara Loffredo of Des Moines, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Jonah Sable, Isaiah Sable, Jude Withey, Cia Withey, and Brit Withey; one sister, Fay Young; one brother, Jim Gasen; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn’s Chapel in Des Moines. A private graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center or Iowa Health Hospice.
