Rusty L. Hanson, the son of Ronald and Ruth (Kathman) Hanson, was born August 30, 1971, at Jefferson, Iowa and departed this life September 11, 2012 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. He lived his life to 41 years and 11 days.
Rusty grew up in Jefferson. He attended and graduated from the Jefferson-Scranton High School in 1990. Rusty met and was engaged to Karilynn Majerus in July of 2001. On August 25, 2007 in Scranton, Iowa, Rusty and Kari exchanged their marriage vows and to this union their son, Taylor was born. During his life, Rusty worked at various jobs. He worked 12 years as a C.N.A. at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City and at the Jefferson Manor (now Regency Park). Rusty always loved to cook, whether at home or at work. Rusty worked as a cook at several restaurants. Rusty and Kari made their home in Churdan and at the time of Rusty’s death, he was a cook at the Churdan Bar and Grill. Rusty’s pride and joy was his son and his wife, for whom he worked hard every day to provide for his family.
Rusty loved NASCAR, professional wrestling and fishing, which he always made time for Taylor and him to enjoy. Whether he was cooking, fishing or spending time with his family, Rusty always said, “If you can’t do it with love, then you shouldn’t do it at all.”
Rusty is survived by his wife, Karilynn, children; Taylor Hanson at home, MaKaleb, Michael and McKenzie Hanson, all of Des Moines, father, Ronald Hanson of Ayrshire, brothers; Rick Hanson of Clinton, OK, Rodney Hanson of Fort Dodge and Rex (Emilie) Hanson of Carroll and two grandchildren. Those who preceded him in death were his mother, Ruth, brother, Robert Hanson, an infant daughter, Megan Hanson and his grandparents.
A celebration of Rusty’s life was held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 16, 2012 from The Dwelling Place in Jefferson with Rev. Bob McKnight officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Rusty and Kari’s wedding song and a favorite song of Rusty’s were played at the service.
