Local Women Entrepreneurs to Present Small Business Resource Seminar

Clive, Iowa – Six local women entrepreneurs will host an interactive half-day Small Business Resource Seminar on
Wednesday, September 19 from 8am-noon at the Walnut Ridge at Clive Senior Campus. While owning a business can
be challenging for anyone, women have been statistically proven to have more challenges owning a business than
men. But, for these six local women business owners, they won’t let research results get in the way of their dreams.
Partnering together as “The Business Warriors,” Tammy Stifel, Renee Schneider, Kathi Koenig, Janis VanAhn, Mary
Anne Kennedy and Susan Arnold send out a monthly blog to educate other business owners and professionals about
running a successful business. Anticipation of the monthly blog among their professional network sparked an idea to
hold a Small Business Resource Seminar to discuss topics related to owning a small, successful business. In addition
to the speakers’ presentations, each expert will have dedicated one-on-one consultations and breakout sessions. A
continental breakfast will be provided along with ample networking opportunities. Tickets for the seminar are only $15
before the event and $20 day-of. Pre-registration is preferred to guarantee your seat.
Presentation topics range from marketing to accounting, HR to health insurance. Men, women, business owners and
professionals of all experience levels are encouraged to attend and learn from the experts in the field. Each speaker will
deliver an engaging and interactive presentation to entertain, educate and empower. Below are the presentations that
are planned:

Kathi Koenig, CPA – Partner at McGowan Hurst Clark & Smith
Kathi Koenig earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and completed business and accounting
courses at Drake University. Prior to joining MHC&S in 1987, Kathi worked in the private accounting industry for 10
years. As a partner in the firm, Kathi’s area of expertise is in small business consulting and tax planning, specializing in
the health care field. Kathi is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa Society
of Certified Public Accountants, where she has been on the board of directors and continues to serve on various
committees. Kathi is also a member and past president of the American Society of Women Accountants, Business and
Professional Women of Des Moines, Central Iowa Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners,
Women’s Reciprocity Breakfast Club and the Joy Breakfast Club. She is also a licensed pilot.

Tammy Stifel – Owner of OrganizerForU
Tammy Stifel is the only Des Moines and surrounding communities Bookkeeping and Process Organizer . Along with
formal education, she has over 17 years Real-Time hands-on experience in the small business world, with the majority
of it in the finance and accounting departments. Tammy has also worked as a company ‘mediator’ between
management and employees to design solutions for small business efficiency issues. She has worked as a Guide, an
Advisor and a Project Manager in all areas of bookkeeping and office process development.

Janis VanAhn – Owner of Health Insurance Advisor, LLC.
‘Educating individual and Medicare consumers to make informed choices’ is her mission because if people are educated
and understand, they will make informed choices that they are comfortable with. For 19 years Janis has worked in and
around the health insurance industry initially providing service to agents and employers related to employee benefits,
individual healthcare and Medicare, while more recently becoming appointed as an individual agent with various quality
carriers to provide this service to individuals through her own business. Janis enjoys the one on one contact with clients
as well as looking forward to speaking to groups about healthcare. Her excitement for this industry is what drives her to
stay in tune with Healthcare Reform and what is currently happening and what will happen with coverage from now to
past 2014.

Mary Anne Kennedy – Owner of Primary Source, Inc
Mary Anne helps businesses and organizations gain brand awareness using promotional products and gifts customized
with logo and message. She has owned Primary Source since 1997 and recently moved to a new location with a much
larger showroom – a great place to get new ideas to promote your business or event. Mary Anne is very active in the
business community, currently a member of the West Des Moines Leadership Academy. She is also the past president
of American Business Women’s Association – West Des Moines Chapter, currently serving as Program Chair and
awarded Woman of the year 2010. Past President of Clive Chamber of Commerce, currently serving as ambassador
and on board of directors and award Business of the Year 2008. Member of National Association of Women Business
Owners – Central Iowa Chapter. Member of West Des Moines and Urbandale Chambers & Des Moines Partnership.

Susan Arnold – Owner of HR On-Call, LLC.
Susan Arnold is a HR Consultant currently employed at HR On-Call, LLC. Susa has 20+ years of HR experience and
can help small business owners improve employer/employee relationships while reducing their risk. Susan’s expertise
in Human Resources will allow business owners to focus on their business while resting assured that they are in
compliance with state and federal law. Susan’s areas of expertise: Reduce Employer Risk and Liability, Performance
Reviews, Improve Employee/Employer Relationships, Background Checks, Creates Customized Employee Handbooks,
Personality Assessments, Guaranteed EEO compliance, Employee Retention, Recruitment / Hiring, Employee
Discipline / Discharge. Prior to HR On-Call, LLC, Susan worked for LADCO Development/Ball Construction Services as
their Director of Human Resources. Susan is passionate about her customers and listens to their needs.

Renee Schneider – Owner of TRIO Marketing Branding Advertising
Renee has been helping businesses achieve their marketing potential for 13 years. Renee has a degree in Integrated
Marketing Communications from Wichita State University, which makes her a “triple threat” with knowledge in
advertising, marketing and public relations. She has experience on the client side, the agency side and the media side
of advertising. TRIO will plan, execute and track a successful marketing programs as well as one-on-one sales coaching
with your sales staff which includes cold calling, setting and attending appointments, closing the sale and helping service
the sale after the project is completed! Renee prides herself on giving her clients ideas on how to advertise and market
for little-to-no cost. She is an expert at helping her clients maximize their profits and improve their business.
