Bonita Jean Harmon, 91, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Sunny View Care Center.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 20, at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. 1st St. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut St. with burial at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Cemetery near Alleman.
Bonita was born March 14, 1921 to Guy and Stella Harshbarger in Lake City, IA. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1939. She attended Northern Iowa Teachers College and earned her degree at Drake University in Des Moines. She taught in a one room country school and later in Alleman and Ankeny. Bonita married Nevin Harmon on November 21, 1942.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Nevin Harmon of Ankeny; son, David (Charlene) Harmon of Ankeny; daughter, Debbra Flynn of Tempe, AZ; seven grandchildren, Sean (Melanie), Katie and Mike Harmon and Jordan (Megan) Flynn, Jenn (Lee) Carpenter, Angela (Carlos) Wakely, and Juliet Becker; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Florinne Lucas, Ann Smith, and Wilma Axmear; and one brother, Guy Harshbarger Jr.
