Get a Library Card

Posted August 15, 2012 in Community Featured, Downtown

September is National Library Card Month. If you don’t have a library card, there’s no better time than back-to-school season to get one.

A library card gives you access to hundreds of thousands of materials, from classic novels to e-books, CDs, DVDs and a plethora of online resources. Stop in the Central Library with your photo I.D. and something with your current address; it takes just a few minutes to get a card.

Writing a research paper
If you are headed back to school and face the ever-dreaded research paper, the DMPL website features EBSCO Host, an extensive collection of magazines, newspapers and peer-reviewed professional journals. In addition, the EBSCO Student Research Center has encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies and maps.

Check out an e-reader
E-readers are available for checkout at the Central Library. Visit the Discovery Terminal, choose and check out a book, then go to the information desk where library staff will download your book onto an e-reader. (E-reader checkout is limited to Des Moines and Windsor Heights residents.)
