A good meal can make a day great. A few days ago I had a busy morning, and I found myself in my car looking for a good, semi-quick meal.
I realized I was close to Pages Café, which is located inside of Wellspring Christian Resources, and decided to stop in. I had never tried the little café before, and I was interested to see what they had to offer.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect there to be much on the menu since it is such a small café. However, my assumptions couldn’t have been more off base. When I walked in, the place was buzzing with people. There were small groups enjoying sandwiches and coffee at the tables and comfy chairs spattered about. Even several kids were enjoying their lunches and made their way up to the counter where a plate of cookies was free for the taking.
I decided to wait on the cookies and coffee and ordered the Sweet and Smokey Club and a bag of my favorite chips. I almost went with the combo that included half a sandwich and curry tomato lentil soup but decided I’d try that next time.
Since I had my sleepy infant with me, I was able to order my meal to go. I watched as the woman behind the counter got out fresh ham, bacon, onion and cheese and piled them high on soft bread. Finally, she cut up fresh, red apple slices and laid them on top before covering it all with another warm slice of bread. She boxed them all up, and I was on my way.
I had a hard time not taking a bite before arriving home, but somehow I made it. Once I had sat down and had my first taste, I knew I had made the right sandwich choice. It was a great club, no doubt about that, but the apples made it an extraordinary meal. I barely touched my chips because I was so impressed with my sandwich. It was gone in record time.
I will definitely be going back to try the soup and maybe one of their delicious-sounding grilled sandwiches. Pages is a great café, perfect for an afternoon out with friends or family.Pages Café 10465 Hickman Road (800) 636-4272 or (515) 251-4008 Hours: Mon. -Sat.: 10a.m.- 7p.m.
