Now there is a fun, casual way to learn about the companies you thought you knew all about, network with fellow Chamber members, and truly get a free lunch! It’s the 12×12 luncheon! Here’s how it works: on the fourth Friday of every month the Chamber will host a luncheon for the first 12 Chamber members to register. The only thing the member will have to do is tell the rest of the group about your company in about 5 minutes, to include questions! It will be a pleasant surprise at how informative and fun it was.

So, what are you waiting for? Register today! You may register online or call the Chamber. Lunch will be rotated among current Chamber members, and Cookies etc. is providing dessert! (Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements). To register online you’ll need your login & password. If you have misplaced it, contact the chamber and we’ll get it for you. To ensure the integrity of this program, we ask that only ONE representative per business attend a specific 12×12 Luncheon. We also ask that if you have already attended, you wait a few months to sign up again to give others a chance at this opportunity.

JOHNSTON (May 23, 2013) – As the 2013 Legislative Session concludes, the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) would like to highlight the priority of conservation and water quality initiatives.

“The ICGA has worked hard to support significant funding for this historic nutrient management strategy this session, along with multiple agriculture and agribusiness partners,” said Bruce Rohwer, a farmer from NW Iowa and the President of the ICGA. “It is also important to recognize the leadership by Ag Secretary Bill Northey in addressing this issue with a comprehensive, forward-thinking strategy.”

The Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy (SF 435, HF 648)
Support for the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy is important to Iowa corn growers, and is a voluntary, science-based strategy to manage nutrients in Iowa’s waters. The bill provided a total of $22.4 million for implementation, including: $2.4 million for general voluntary water quality initiatives; $10 million for targeted watershed use (70% to high priority watersheds), $3 million to the watershed improvement review board (WIRB), and an additional $7 million, over the base funding, for the backlog of conservation cost share projects. Each of these programs will contribute to pro-active environmental practices, on the farm, that will benefit water quality, assist in the management of nutrients, and improve farmers’ ability to keep Iowa’s soil in place, on the farm.

“This strategy is the first in the nation and the ICGA applauds legislators on supporting voluntary, science-based strategies,” says Bruce Rohwer, a farmer from Paullina and ICGA president. “For this program to be successful we need farmer participation. We are excited to help corn farmers continue investing in conservation by looking at ways to improve their current practices and those of their farmer neighbors.”

The Iowa Corn Growers Association is a grassroots, farmer-led policy association. To participate in policy development, you can start with ICGA roundtable discussions this July.
