Des Moines, IA – An exciting new organization known as The (Beat) Theatre Collective announces “The (Beat) Basics”; a new theatre class for adults this summer, held in the East Side Library located at 2559 Hubbell Avenue. Whether you have never been on stage before or you want to freshen up your skills, The (Beat) Theatre Collective’s introductory workshop series is a dynamic and affordable way to keep your love of acting alive this summer. The (Beat) Basics class runs on Saturdays from 3:15 – 4:45p beginning on August 5th. This six week class will provide an introduction to the basics of the Meisner, Suzuki and Viewpoints acting techniques through scene work, games and physical activity for every level. A maximum of 12 participants will be accepted.
Instructor Natividad Mercedez Uehara earned her Bachelor of Arts majoring in theatre at Alma College, where she trained in the Meisner Technique among other offerings from the department. Later, during her internship she served as part time faculty which included assistant teaching Theatre History, Acting and Directing related course offerings. Based on the merit of her directing work in Detroit, MI she was the recipient of a grant that allowed her to further her training in directing with the One Year Lease Theatre Company through a summer apprenticeship in Greece, where she trained in the Suzuki and Viewpoints methods. She has since taught acting at Tipping Point Theatre, Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor, and Creede Repertory Theater in Colorado. She has also served as a director for several companies including Tipping Point Theatre, Performance Network Theatre, The New Theater Project, Raw Festival Detroit and BoxFest Detroit. Nati currently serves as the Executive Director for The (Beat) Theatre Collective.
