Donna was born Aug. 5, 1944 in Jefferson, Iowa to Calvin McDonald and June Jeanette (Cretsinger) Collins. They later moved to Des Moines where Donna grew up surrounded by loving parents and a sister, Marilyn. She completed high school, obtained employment, married, and had two girls, Dawn and Kimberly. Later in life, she met Fred, who became her second husband.
She was a dedicated and hardworking person always determined to do her best. She enjoyed many opportunities to work in the business world. The majority of her career was with credit unions where she was able to take on new challenges and meet many friends. It was important to Donna to work hard so that she could provide for her family and enjoy many things in life.
Donna loved trying out the latest crafts, be it macramé, string art, embroidery, floral arranging, and more! She especially enjoyed crocheting and often had a baby blanket or two to make for an expecting mother. When not crafting, she enjoyed a favorite sci-fi flick, crossword puzzle, or computer game. She also had a love for music, especially the piano. She made beautiful music. She had the opportunity to play piano at her church and enjoyed singing in the choir. In addition, she enjoyed attending church, camping at the Iowa State Fair, and her hobby rabbits.
Although the disease took Donna’s strength, it couldn’t dim her smile. We love Donna for the many little ways she expressed her love for all: her many sayings, the silly gestures, her smile, the gift she picked up “just because”, the times she so willingly listened and provided comfort.
She will be greatly missed….
Donna is survived by her two daughters, Dawn (Jerald) Banwart and Kimberly Johnson; one sister, Marilyn McDaniel Wilson; three grandchildren, Keaton Banwart, Lincoln Banwart, Macenzie Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and two brothers-in-law.
The family asks that any donations be made in her name to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
