Vincent “Vic” Leo Schroeder, Carroll

Vincent “Vic” Leo Schroeder, age 84, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as celebrant. Fr. Richard Remmes and Fr. Tom Dooley will concelebrate the Mass. 4113837Lector for the mass will be Sherri Burkle. Eucharistic Ministers will be Lon and Catherine Schroeder. Music for the Mass will be by the Holy Spirit Choir with Barb McDermott as organist. Gift bearers will be Brian Schroeder and Jill Chevalier. Casket bearers will be Dan Roberts, Josh Weyer, Luke Schmidt, Judd Hawkins, Doug Dailey, and Keith Schroeder.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service.

Born on June 12, 1932 near Arcadia, Iowa, he was the son of Aloisious and Johanna (Pille) Schroeder. Vic, as he was known to most, grew up on his family’s farm and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1950. He was married to Carolyn Jean Sexton on September 9, 1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia by Fr. Stork. Vic farmed with his father south of Arcadia where the couple raised their family. He was active in Woodmen of the World and the Knights of Columbus in his younger years. Vic retired from farming in 2000 and the couple moved to Carroll. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Vic enjoyed playing softball until well into his 50’s, golfing, bowling, card clubs, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.

Vic is survived by two daughters: Sherri Burkle (Ron) of Omaha and Jill Chevalier (Steve) of Omaha; two sons Lon Schroeder (Catherine) of Hancock and Brian Schroeder (Karen) of Arcadia; ten grandchildren: Angie Roberts (Dan), Sarah Hawkins (Judd), Kellie Schroeder (Larry Davis), Jen Weyer (Josh), Ciera Buchanan Paige Buchanan, Justin Schroeder (Amy), Sean Schroeder (Kristin), Erin Schmidt (Luke), and Stephanie Elsasser (fiancé Alex Koehler); great grandchildren: Hannah, Chance, Riley, Keaton, Hunter, Anna, Grant, Madison Tucker, Cooper; his sister Shirley Wolterman (Robert) of Mesa, Arizona; a sister-in-law Lois Schroeder of Elkhorn, Nebraska; a sister-in-law Phyllis Schweers of Carroll; a brother-in-law Wilbert Lusman of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Katie Schroeder, four sisters: Dorothy Mueggenberg, Mercedes Renze, Ethel Hesson, Ruth Lussman, and three brothers: Ivan, Orville and Duane; and his wife Carolyn Schroeder May 4, 2014.
