Johnston City Council to vote on appointment of new fire chief

Posted September 15, 2016 in Uncategorized

The Johnston City Council will vote Monday night on the appointment of a new Fire Chief to oversee the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department. A search committee has selected Jim Clark, the current administrative assistant fire chief of the Sioux City Fire Rescue Department.

“Jim’s extensive experience in the fire service and collaborative management style were key in our selection process. We are excited to have him lead our team,” said Johnston City Administrator Jim Sanders.

In addition to his leadership role in the Sioux City Fire Rescue Department, Clark is the Emergency Management Coordinator for Sioux City. He has also completed the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The Johnston City Council will vote on the appointment during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. Once approved, the new fire chief will begin on Oct. 17 and will be responsible for overseeing all operations of the cities’ fire departments including personnel management, budget development, long-range planning and coordinating fire and rescue activities for two rapidly growing communities. Johnston and Grimes renewed their 28E Agreement in June. The agreement to share services has been in place since 2007.
