Waukee, Iowa – The Waukee Area Arts Council hosts Iowa Shakespeare Experience’s Romeo and Juliet; Thrice Told Tales by Lorenzo Sandoval as a part of an evening featuring a variety of original one-act plays and music. The event is free and will be on Friday, July 22 at 7:00 pm in Centennial Park.

Romeo and Juliet; Thrice Told Tales asks the question – What if this famous young couple had not died so young and got married like the rest of us?!  An original Lorenzo Sandoval adaptation featuring 50 percent original Shakespeare and 50 percent modern twists and surprises.

Bring your picnics, wine and celebrate 400 years of Shakespeare! Coupled with this headliner will be an all-new original short  “Amuse-Bouche”: a modern love
story humorously haunted by Hamlet! And more surprises!

Romeo and Juliet; Thrice Told Tales by Lorenzo Sandoval recently won 5th place out of 300 scripts submitted to Cambridge University Press special international short play festival competition held in honor of the world’s 2016 “400 Years of Shakespeare” celebrations.

Sandoval is the founding Artistic Director and Playwright-in-Residence of the Iowa Shakespeare Experience (ISE), which for nearly a decade at its annual Shakesperience Festival has been bringing both innovative and classic interpretations of Shakespeare’s works to Iowans, often with the playwright’s hallmark infusion of live music and dance.
