At home in Prairie Stream

Posted September 29, 2015 in Adel, Community Featured

Few people build their own home these days, but Curt Kahler served as the general contractor when he and Amy built their new home on 10 acres at 21263 Prairie Stream Drive in the Prairie Stream development four miles southwest of Adel. Like many people the Kahlers wanted to raise their three children in a small town similar to where they grew up, a town with good schools. “Adel reminds me of our home town, Sigourney, in southeast Iowa” says Amy; “we love living here.” The Kahlers moved from Johnston to Adel in 2013 and appreciate the friendly welcome they have received from the community.

The Kahlers new 5 bedroom, 4 ½ bath home is customized with the latest design and furnishings, a well-equipped stainless kitchen, living area, dining room, recreation room, sunroom and much more, but the main focus when building was a comfortable design that invites friends and family for adventure and a good time. The Kahlers refer to their house as “just a house”; their main interest is more on the community, their children’s schools, and enjoying their life in this nice community. Dakota, Noah and Delaney love school in Adel and spoke to me about how welcomed they were by their classmates. Another family member is Leo, a 10 year old Greyhound rescued race dog. Leo raced at the Bluffs Run Greyhound racing track at Horseshoe Council Bluffs/Bluffs Run Greyhound Park. He sneaked up on me when I arrived at the Kahler home and looked in my car window. I thought he was a deer but after I regained my composure, Leo walked me to the door smiling and leaning into me all the way. Leo is a good and happy dog and is enjoying “royal treatment” during his retirement.

Amy is a CPA and is the Director of Customer Service and Marketing for Des Moines Water Works. She is a member of P.E.O. and enjoys collecting Iowa state fair pottery provided each year by Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. This year’s piece was made by a young lady who owns Willow Avenue Pottery in rural Guthrie County.

Curt works for Leachman Lumber Company in Des Moines. (FYI the record-breaking actress, Cloris Leachman’s father started Leachman Lumber Company.)

Amy, Curt, Dakota, Noah and Delaney—-Leo too—-enjoy living in Adel among trees, animals, four seasons, fresh air and most of all good people.
