What a festival!

Posted September 02, 2015 in Adel, Community Featured

On day 4 of my new position as the Director of the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, I had the privilege of seeing the Sweet Corn Festival production. Being involved with other festivals and community events, I had an understanding of what to expect.   Nothing had me prepared for this event.   People weren’t kidding when they say everyone in the community is involved and makes this event a success.   Every volunteer was essential for this event to run smoothly.   THANK YOU volunteers.

Friday night’s corn shucking people just kept coming and knew to grab a bag of corn. The kids kept busy tossing the husks.   Everyone had a job and in no time7 ½ tons of corn was shucked, sorted, passed through quality control and in the AE truck ready for Saturday morning. If you haven’t ever shucked the corn, mark August 12, 2016 on the calendar at 5:30pm and join us for a great experience. Hometown pride at its best!

The Little Princess contest, the 5K run, the parade, the bands, the vendors, the craft show, the car show, the entertainment, the kids’ inflatables throughout the day helped entertain over 10,000+ attendees of the Sweet Corn Festival, plus the cooking and serving of the sweet corn. I spent lots of the day intrigued with the sweet corn cooker itself, a fabulous way to cook tons of corn at once. Next bring your friends and family just to see the sweet corn cooked.

Thank you really isn’t enough to say to all the volunteers who helped with this huge event

We want to thank the committee Doug Zeigler and Dan Juffer Co-Chairs. Matt Ireland, Rich Hughes, Troy Weiland and all City officials. You rocked this event.
