All Dallas County Reads 1 Book

Posted September 02, 2015 in Adel, Community Featured, Email blast

Summer is drawing to a close and the leaves are beginning to turn as we prepare for an exciting fall here at the Adel Public Library. September brings the second annual All Dallas County Reads 1 Book in Perry, a great program on Iowa Ghosts and the Afterlife, as well as a new children’s Storytime called Saturday Stories on the second Saturday of each month.

This year’s All Dallas County Reads 1 Book is the mystery “Blue Heaven” by New York Times bestselling author C.J. Box. A Read and Meet with Mr. Box will be held on Thursday, September 17th at the Hotel Pattee in Perry, where hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served, at 5:30 pm; tickets for this special event are available at any Dallas County public library. The Read and Meet will be followed by a free Author Talk presented by Mr. Box at 7:00 pm at the Perry Performing Arts Center.

“Terry Fisk is a philosopher, author, investigator, and lecturer for Unexplained Research LLC. Fisk discusses his confrontations with the famous skeptic and debunker James Randi.  He also describes his ghost investigations with world-renowned medium Allison DuBois (the real-life inspiration for the hit CBS series, Medium) and psychic Chip Coffey (from TV’s Paranormal State and Psychic Kids).”  His program on Iowa Ghosts and the Afterlife “examines some of the haunted locations in Iowa personally investigated by Mr. Fisk.  Many of these haunting are right in your own neighborhood; some are even in your own backyard. He will share photos, case histories, eyewitness accounts, and ghost lore” at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 15th in the community room.

Our next Garage Sale of the year is Friday September 25th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday September 26th from 10:00 am to Noon. All proceeds from the monthly Garage Sales are used by the Friends of the Adel Public Library Foundation for special projects and programs at the library.

Kid’s activities are back! We’ll have an Early Out Movie on Wednesday, September 16th @ 2:00 pm when we’ll watch the movie “Home” on the big screen. Our Lego League will meet on the third Monday of each month @ 4:00 pm for fun Lego activities. Join us for our first league meeting at 4:00 pm on Monday, September 21st!

Story Time for kids ages 3-5 years meets on Mondays, Toddler Time for children ages 3 and under is on Tuesdays, while Music Time for all preschoolers meets on Thursdays. On the second Saturday of each month we’ll have a new Saturday Stories program for kids of all ages. Each of these programs meet in the storytime room @ 10:30 am.

The first Teen Advisory Board meeting for the fall will be on Thursday, September 10th at 4:00 pm. All A-D-M teens are welcome to join us!
