I recently returned home after a long vacation with my family and getting back into the routine of life at home has been a bit challenging. The most challenging thing for me was getting back to my daily exercise classes at Farrell’s. After sleeping in on vacation that early class felt even earlier, but I knew that it was important to get back into the routine of working out for my health and fitness.
In a similar way, the kids of our community are getting ready to go back to school. While kids aren’t always excited about going back to school after enjoying summer vacation, we as parents know that it’s important to get back into the routine of that school brings. School will help the kids mature and learn new things so that they can reach their goals in life.
While getting back into an exercise routine or getting back to school are important, getting back into the Bible is one of the most important things anyone can do. The Bible is God’s Word. It is what God has revealed to us about who He is and what He has done and continues to do for all of us. When we engage the Bible, we learn more about God’s plan for our lives, but more importantly we learn about His love for us, especially in how He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live, die, and rise again for our salvation.
Normally, we engage the Bible when we hear God’s Word proclaimed by a pastor in church, or when we are in a Bible study, or even when we read and meditate on it by ourselves. But like many others things during the summer, it is really easy to change our routine and do things that take us away from our time with the Bible. As we focus on getting back into the routine of the Fall, I want to encourage everyone to get back into the Bible. Make time for worship, Bible study, and personal devotions. If you do, you will find God’s guidance for your life. You will find a new sense of peace and hope. You will find God’s love for you when you need it the most. Getting back to exercise and school are great things, but getting back into God’s Word, the Bible, is best thing that we can do. It’s the one thing that will yield benefits both now and forever.
