Q: Can chiropractic care really help with bed wetting (enuresis)?

Posted August 05, 2015 in Advice Column, Ames

A: Families struggling with a child that continues to wet the bed unfortunately understands the stigma attached to their child. Sleepovers become non-existent and camping trips are passed over because their child is too embarrassed.

Many people ask if chiropractic care can help with enuresis, and while we never answer with “absolutely”, we give a very solid, “it depends”! I realize that is not as convincing, but it really does depend on how your child’s nervous system is functioning. Because everything is controlled by our nervous system, including bladder function, if there is disruption to that system, it can create problems – sometimes so subtle that it takes a while for these problems to be recognized. We know that each organ and system in the body is controlled through a series of nerves that pass through different areas of the body.   As chiropractors, we examine the spine and look for these areas of interference and correct them through specific adjustments. By doing so, it allows your body to heal naturally, and many of your symptoms to subside.
