New digital materials now available

Posted May 06, 2015 in Community Featured, Urbandale

The Urbandale Public Library, in partnership with Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD), is pleased to announce the launch of OneClickdigital, an online service that allows patrons to check out eAudiobooks and eBooks, including best-sellers, Recorded Books exclusives, classics, selections for children and young adults, and much more.

All Urbandale Library cardholders have free access to eAudio and eBooks at home, in the library, or on the go. Many titles are multi-access, so multiple users can check out a given title at the same time, eliminating holds. OneClickdigital is compatible with all popular listening devices, and mobile apps are available for the iPhone®, Android™, and Kindle Fire. OneClickdigital features an easy-to-use interface with streamlined navigation, fast downloads, and automatic software updates.

You can find the items in our Recorded Books collection either through the catalog or directly on our OneClick website:  http://urbandaleia.oneclickdigital.com/

This new service is in addition to our existing eAudio and eBook service through WILBOR/Overdrive.

Upcoming Programs

Iowa’s Cultural Kaleidoscope will be presented by Phillip E. Webber on Thursday, May 14, 6:30-7:30 PM.

This presentation will offer a rich variety of photographs that suggest some of the major historical settlement patterns in Iowa and current trends in new immigration from areas as diverse as Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Phillip Webber is Professor of German and Linguistics at Central College in Pella, where he has taught since 1976. A primary focus of his research has been patterns of ethnicity and language use in Iowa communities. Join us to find out more about Iowa’s diversity!

Iowa’s Hidden Treasures will be presented by Dan Kaercher on Thursday, May 21, 6:30-7:30 PM.

You’ll be amazed to learn about the surprises you don’t know await you right in your own backyard-Iowa! Dan Kaercher has spent years traveling in almost every one of Iowa’s 99 counties and found several close-to-home attractions and getaways to share with you.

Dan is the retired founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living Magazine and host of “Iowa’s Simple Pleasures” and other travel-related programs aired on Iowa Public Television and other public television stations nationally. He is the author of three books about the Midwest and Iowa: Best of the Midwest, Taste of the Midwest, and Parklands of the Midwest.
