Join tea aficionado, Max Wiese, for a discussion of the history of tea and a presentation from his collection of over 250 teapots. Max will be at Johnston Public Library on Saturday, May 16 at 10:30am to discuss the legend of how tea was discovered, the history of the Afternoon Tea, and present a close look at some of his antique teapots and accessories. This event will be followed with a tea party featuring black tea and scones with fruit preserves and Devonshire cream. Participants who attend this program will also have a chance to win door prizes of a tea pot and tea cups and saucers from Max’s personal collection.
Summer travel season is fast approaching. Dan Kaercher will be at Johnston Public Library on Saturday, May 30th at 10:30am to talk about Iowa’s hidden treasures. Dan is the retired founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living magazine and Iowa Public Television host, and spent years traveling in almost every one of Iowa’s 99 counties in search of close-to-home attractions and getaways to share with his loyal readers and viewers. Join him as he shares favorite destinations, insights and often-hilarious tales gleaned during decades spent exploring Iowa. You’ll be amazed to learn what surprises you don’t know await right in your own backyard.
Calling all superheroes! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s an epic DC vs. Marvel Superhero Cosplay event at Johnston Public Library. Set aside your mild-mannered alter ego and come to Johnston Public Library on Saturday, May 30th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm dressed as your favorite superhero or super villain for this all-ages cosplay event. Compete in the costume contest, defeat your nemeses at superhero trivia, make your own comic book short with our green screen, have your picture taken with superheroes from the Iowa League of Heroes, make a superhero mask, create your own superhero symbol cookie and much more.
