Library Musings

Posted April 21, 2015 in Community Blogs, Bondurant

Like the colorful flowers of spring, BCL has new books “popping up” all over the library. We’ve recently just completed a large book order and we’re processing them as fast as we can to get them out to you! A great way to “browse” any newly added books is to log on to our website at www.bondurant.lib.ia.us, click on “search our catalog” and check out the colorful revolving banner of books! This feature has just been recently added, and so far it’s a hit.

There was one week, though, when I added several romance donations – it looked like we had added a shirtless cowboy genre to the library. I should probably mention that we have books for patrons with all types of interests, even shirtless cowboy books. Apart from that silliness, the rolling banner of book covers is a great way to recognize a best seller on the spot. Or, you may catch a glimpse of that popular picture book for your little one. Another feature of the banner is that you can click on a book and it instantly takes you to its record which includes the copyright date, author, summary, and more.

Some exciting fiction best sellers recently added: “The Girl on the Train” by Paul Hawkins, “The Stranger” by Harlan Coben, “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon, “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty, and “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah, “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr (a 2015 Pulitzer Prize fiction winner!)

Love non-fiction? Try some of these new additions: “I am Scout” by Charles Shields (a biography of Harper Lee), “Of All Gin Joints: Stumbling Through Hollywood History” by Mark Bailey, “Liar Temptress Solider Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War by Karen Abbott, “Beeswax Alchemy” by Petra Ahnert, “Saving Italy” by Robert Edsel.

We also added some fun picture books: “Hoot Owl Master of Disguise” by Sean Taylor and Jean Jullian, “Love Monster” by Rachel Bright, “Aqualicious” by Victoria Kann, “Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Life by James Dean, “Stick and Stone” by Tom Lichtenheld and Beth Ferry.

After the completion of weeding our Junior Fiction section, we’ve replaced and added series books, including: new and replacement copies of the popular Magic Tree House series, Bad Kitty, Nancy Drew (love!), Dork Diaries, Judy Moody and Junie B. New series added include the Cupcake Diaries and Owl Diaries (what is the deal with owls right now they are so on trend). We also have added some very valuable books to the collection. Can you say Pokemon? They’re like gold around here!

There’s lots more, so hop on to our website and be mesmerized by the scrolling book catalog or stop in to grab a new book hot off the press! Well, actually hot off the book prep area, but you get what I’m saying.
