Mack Wilberg Conducts the Choral Society

Mack Wilberg, internationally known composer and director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will be the headliner as the Des Moines Choral Society marks 35 years of bringing fine choral music to Central Iowa. Wilberg will be featured in a weekend packed with a wide variety of choral music activities.
On Saturday May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Mack Wilberg will be the guest conductor for the Des Moines Choral Society’s 35th Anniversary Concert. The concert will be performed at First Christian Church, at 25th and University Avenue in Des Moines. Mack Wilberg Conducts the Choral Society with feature a number of Wilberg’s works from his Requiem to hymns and folk songs like Cindy and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. The choir will be accompanied by an 18 piece orchestra. Following the concert, the Des Moines Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will host a reception in honor of Dr. Wilberg in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church.
The Des Moines Choral Society is under the direction of Artistic Director Dr. James Rodde, Director of Choral Activities at Iowa State University. Approximately sixty auditioned adult volunteer singers from Central Iowa comprise the Des Moines Choral Society. It constitutes one of the area’s premier musical ensembles and has been recognized by the Iowa Arts Council for its exceptional performances.
