Writer’s Workshop, first & third Thursdays, 6:30, in the Library
The Writer’s Workshop will meet on the first and third Thursdays every month at 6:30 in the Library.  We are so lucky to have talented leaders in our town.  The Writer’s Workshop is led by Heather Clark, whose degrees are from Drake University.  Her format for the Writer’s Workshop is to have each participant bring some of their own writing to share, and to be ready to give constructive suggestions about the writings of the other participants.  Please join us on April 16 in the Library.  The Workshop is free and open to the public.

Local author Bill Cotton will present his books, Saturday, May 2, 10:00 am, in the Library
You are in for a treat when you meet Bill Cotton and hear stories from his new book, “Iowa Roots, Vol. 1: Ruminations upon a Unique Land, Uncommon People.” <https://www.facebook.com/events/769615893126278/?ref=1> Cotton has lived in Iowa more than 50 years, after his Texas beginnings.  And he has fallen in love with our great state and the fine people of Iowa.  As a United Methodist minister, he has met lots of people, and he has collected their stories of perseverance against all odds, and hope against hope … stories to inspire all of us in our daily activities.  It is also an inspiration to read of Cotton’s appreciation of Iowa towns and landscapes … right here in our own backyard.  Please join us in the Library meeting room for his program.  It is free and open to the public.

Summer Reading Program will be Heroic!
The theme for the Library’s Summer’s Reading Program is “Every Hero Has a Story.”  The Library will kick off the 2-month program by hosting caricaturist Duane Murray in the Library all day on May 30.  Mr. Murray will draw free caricatures for kids up through age 18.  We will also hold a Summer Program Kickoff Party in the Library Meeting Room from 1:30-3:30 pm, and will provide games and snacks!

Children’s Story-Times
Toddlers up to age 2, we have a special story-time for you called Toddler Tuesday.  Be there at 10:30 am for fun and music and stories.  For preschoolers ages 3 and up, Library Story-Times are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30.  The Library loves to see these little ones who are learning so rapidly in every setting.  Reading is recognized as contributing to the health and well-being of every child, and pediatricians are recommending reading for their little patients.  At the Library, besides meeting new friends, they are also learning to love good stories, and how to pay attention in a group setting — good preparation for Kindergarten!

Library Repairs & the Library Meeting Room
Thanks to everyone for your patience during the long-running repairs to the Library building.  Although not everything is completed, we can start using the Library Meeting Room again, on a limited basis – only in the evenings.  If your group has traditionally met in the Library, or wants to meet in the Library, give us a call to make sure we have you on the Meeting Room schedule.  The Meeting Room is available for $35 rent plus a separate $25 check for damage deposit.

Quote of the Week
Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being.  Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light.
