Taking a break

All regularly scheduled children’s events will take a break over the month of May to get ready for Summer Reading. Be sure to sign up June 1st for this year’s Summer Reading Program, “Every Hero has a Story!” Stay tuned for exciting summer programming!

 

Shadows: Saturday, April 18th, at 10am

Come learn about and play with shadows! Includes stories, songs, and crafts! Ages 3+.

Ask-A-Lawyer: Monday April 20th 5:45-7:45pm

Register for a 15 minute time slot with Cynthia Letsch from Letsch Law Firm. Get advice on whether you have a legal issue that is worth pursuing and assistance finding a lawyer who can help you. Offered the third Monday of each month.

 

Book Buddies: Saturday, April 25th 10am-noon

Beginning readers register for a time slot to read with a Teen Buddy. Please call the library to register, 986-3551.

Stories with Elsa: Saturday, April 25th 10:30am

Queen Elsa is coming to the Grimes Public Library to read stories with you! Come for a Frozen storytime, crafts, and pictures with Elsa! All ages.

Babysitting Class: Monday, April 27th, 9am-4:30pm

This course gives youth ages 11 to 15 years old the knowledge and confidence to care for infants and school-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a complete learning experience. A fee of $35 must be paid to hold your spot. Please bring a sack lunch on the day of the event.

Adult Book Club: Monday, May 4th, 6pm

Book Club meets the first Monday of the month. This month’s selection is “The Swallows of Kabul” by Yasmina Khadra.

Handicraft Helpers: Wednesday May 6th, 3:30-5pm

Join knitters, crocheters, quilters, darners, scrap bookers and other lovers of handiwork! Bring your current project and supplies to work along other enthusiastic crafters. Once the group is established, we will have speakers and demonstrations to assist in the various handicrafts. First Wednesday of each month.

Mini Books: Tuesday, May 12th, 6:30pm

Come write and illustrate your own mini-book! Ages 5+

Tech Drop-In: Thursday, May 14th 3-5pm

On the second Thursday of each month, bring in your laptop, phone, tablet or e-reader between 3-5pm for basic computer help and instruction. To ensure one-on-one assistance, register for a 30 minute time slot with Fionn or Kelly.

Retro Relax: Thursday, May 14th, 4-6pm

Get ready for the final days of school and exams by getting in touch with your inner child.   Homemade stress balls, coloring sheets, LEGO® blocks, and classic board games! (13+)

Move and Groove: Mondays at 6:30pm

Ages 2+ can join Kelly for some fun with stretching, dancing, singing and, of course, a lesson or story.

Toddler Time: Tuesdays at 9:30 and 10:00am

Toddlers 18 months to 3 years old and a caregiver are invited to join us as we introduce literacy and a love of books through storytelling, rhymes, songs and crafts. No registration required.

Preschool Story Time: Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:00am

Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 years are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts. No registration required.

Baby Lapsit: Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m.

A time for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers to play and grow through songs, short stories, nursery rhymes, and other developmental activities. No registration required.

Evening Story Time: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Families are invited to listen to stories, participate in songs and rhymes, and make a craft. No registration required.

Friday Story Time: Fridays at 10:00 a.m.

Kids of all ages are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts. No registration required.
