Library hosts comic book – sci-fi convention

This spring, the Central Library joins forces with the Iowa Comic Book Club to present the first annual LibCon—the library’s version of a comic book/fantasy/sci-fi convention. The library, after all, has an outstanding collection of graphic novels, comic books, fantasy, science fiction, books and films. If you’re a “super-fan” of these genres, you won’t want to miss this chance to meet other like-minded beings. Capes, tights, and other types of superhero attire are encouraged! All ages are welcome. It’s all happening on Monday, May 4 at the Central Library.

 

LibCon Alley

May 4, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Like to meet a local comic book writer? Talented local artists and authors offer special presentations. Meet and greet favorite sci-fi and comic book characters. There will be all kinds of fun activities for all ages.

 

Literature and Comics: Partners throughout Time

May 4, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Would Superman exist if Tarzan and Princess of Mars had never been written? Find out as illustrator and art educator Sean Eike shares his insight regarding the influence of literature on comic book writing and art.

 

Cosplay 101

May 4, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Wondering about cosplay? It’s like a costume party packed with characters from movies, books, and video games. Mandi Arthur-Struss, costume designer and cosplay enthusiast, shares cosplay history, techniques, and costume construction tips.

 

Wireless printing available

Responding to customer requests, the DMPL now offers wireless printing. You can send print jobs to library printers from your home computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone. Access wireless printing using the link on the library’s home page—dmpl.org. Retrieve your prints at the library’s print station using your email address. Prints cost 25 cents per page, full color.

 

Job Seekers gain an edge at Central Library

Collaborating with Goodwill Career Connection Center, Central Library offers computer classes and open lab hours several days each week to help job seekers learn skills, create resumes, and find and apply for jobs. Stop in or check our event calendar online for the schedule.
