Kantor’s grandson to visit

In April, we are thrilled to present Tom Shroder, award-winning journalist, writer and editor who is also the grandson of MacKinlay Kantor. Thanks to the Webster City Hotel Motel Tax Board for the grant that makes this possible.


Upcoming Programs

  • Adult Movie: Wild (Rated R) on Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00pm.
  • Noon Book Club: Tuesday, April 28 at 12:00, the Noon Book Club will discuss The Widower’s Tale by Julia Glass. The title for the May 26 discussion will be Midwives by Chris Bojhalian.
  • DIY Club: Tuesday, May 5 at 6:00pm. Paper flowers out of recycled book materials. All materials provided at no cost.
  • Walking in His Grandfather’s Footsteps: Thursday, April 23 at 6:30pm at the Webster City Community Theater. Tom Shroder, will give a presentation about his writing career and influences from his grandfather, MacKinlay Kantor.
  • Writer’s Workshop: Saturday, April 25 from 10:00am-3:30pm at Webster City Middle School. Tom Shroder will lead a writer’s workshop titled “How to Craft a Successful Pitch.” Pre-registration is required. Contact Angie at or 515-832-9100 ext. 5.
  • Library Book Sale: April 30-May 2. Thursday, April 30 (10am-8pm) is Friends Day. Friday, May 1 (10am-6pm) and Saturday, May 2 (10am-12pm) the sale will be open to the public.
  • Evening Book Club: Monday, May 18 at 6:30pm, our new Evening Book Club will discuss Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed.


Teen Programming


  • Teen Lounge: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30pm when school is in session. Snacks, games, laptops and activities. All teens (grades 6-12) are welcome.
  • Special Teen Empowerment Teen Lounge: Wednesday, May 6th from 3:30-5:30, Tiffany Larson from Building Families will visit Teen Lounge to facilitate activities and discussion geared toward empowering youth.


Children’s Programming


  • Preschool Storytime:Session ends Tuesday, April 21, 10:05-10:35am. (3-5 years)
  • Science Club: Session ends Tuesday, April 21, 4:00-5:00pm. (2nd – 5th grade)
  • Lego Fun Club: Tuesday, April 28, 4:00-5:00pm (K – 5th grade)
  • Toddler Storytime: Wednesday, May 6, 10:15-10:45am.
  • Wii Game Day: Saturday, April 25, 1:00-3:00 in the Children’s Department. Grades 1-5.
  • Saturday Morning Children’s Movies – every Saturday from 10:30am to noon for all ages. Children younger than kindergarten should be accompanied by an adult. April 25: Night at the Museum (PG); May 2: Tinkerbell & the Legend of the Neverbeast (G); May 9: Princess Bride (PG); May 16: Savage Sam (sequel to Old Yeller) (NR); May 23: Annie 2014 (PG).
