A season of growth

Posted April 15, 2015 in Ankeny, Community Featured

Spring brings a renewed feeling of growth potential and opportunity. If you enjoy gardening like me, you can hardly wait to head to a local nursery and buy flowers, tomato plants & seeds! We know that spring in Iowa is unpredictable, so we’ll practice a little patience and wait until about Mothers’ Day to play master gardener.

In Ankeny we’re seeing great growth right now, and dirt being turned over for reasons other than gardening! My family has enjoyed watching my parents’ home go up in the past few months in the Prairie Trail neighborhood. From my Chamber President perspective I’ve seen a new confidence and excitement about the opportunities that are soon to be realized in many of your businesses and lives. We are beginning to feel the sunshine of spring after a long winter economically. Though central Iowa did not feel the worst of the economic downturn, most of our businesses and families were directly impacted. As Midwesterners we’ve been conservative in reinvesting into our businesses. Our practices have changed, and we’ve been waiting until “Mother’s Day” to plant our gardens. I am by no means an economist! But I am excited by the smiles I see on local business owners faces, and by the many ribbon cuttings we are holding for new businesses and those ready to invest in their future by getting involved in the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce.

My passion as your Ankeny Chamber President this year is to help you connect to the many resources available through the Chamber that will promote personal and professional growth. Think of the Ankeny Chamber as a garden hose bringing your business much needed water as we direct people to do business with you, and share other valuable tools to help your “garden” grow & thrive.

Check out our coming events at and pick one or two to attend this month. Don’t forget our office hours this coming Wednesday the April 22nd. It’s not too late to sign up for 30 minutes of one on one professional advice! Feel free to reach out to me, the Chamber staff, or any of our Board of Directors with questions on how the Ankeny Chamber can help your business grow.

Happy Gardening!
