He was a salesman in the hardware and sporting good business and enjoyed working with antiques, refinishing woodwork and cooking. He carried on a long-time family interest in hunting and fishing and had many fond memories with family and friends at this favorite fishing spot – Lake Vermilion, MN. Later in life he was an active volunteer at the YMCA and the Veteran’s Administration managing the Victory Garden Project.

It took meeting Kevin just once to remember him; he was often charismatic, funny and quick witted. Throughout life, he easily connected with a variety of friends and acquaintances. He was proud of his family’s Iowa heritage and passed many stories on to his children, and with them, he was affectionately referred to as “The Daddy-O.”

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his four children: Robert Kurtz of Fargo, ND, Michael Kurtz(Kelly Shields)of Ft. Collins, CO, Timothy Kurtz of Venice Beach, CA, Sarah (Justin) Shaver of Nipomo, CA; five grandchildren; siblings: Mary Ann (Bud) Carter of Prior Lake, MN, Carol (Darryl) Horsman of Bonita Bay, FL, Sheila Kurtz (Greg)Robinson of Urbandale, Molly Kurtz Conway (Tom) of Santa Rosa Valley, CA, and Bob (Ann) Kurtz of Des Moines.
