MY ANGEL FOUNDATION GREEN 5K FUN RUN AND WALK REGISTRATION OPEN

Posted April 08, 2015 in Web Exclusives

Waukee, Iowa — The 2015 Green 5K Fun Run and Walk, hosted by My Angel Foundation, will be held Saturday, May 2, at Centennial Park in Waukee. Registration is now open through the end of April, which is also Donate Life Month.

The 5K event helps spread awareness about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation by commemorating the lives of donors, celebrating the health of recipients, and recognizing the hope of those waiting for a life-changing transplant.

“This event helps raise awareness about donation, but it also serves as a reminder to donors, donor families, recipients and those awaiting a transplant that they’re not alone — there’s a whole community behind them,” said Ted Cochran, founder of My Angel Foundation and a kidney recipient. “Bring your family and friends for a morning of fun and exercise outdoors — and make sure you wear green to help us promote organ, eye and tissue donation.”

More than 550 Iowans and 121,000 men, women and children nationally are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. On average, 18 people die every day while waiting for organ transplants in the U.S., and another name is added to the waiting list every 11 minutes. Registering as a donor is as simple as visiting http://www.iowadonorregistry.org/ or saying “yes” as an organ donor when receiving a new driver’s license.

No matter their skill level, participants can run, walk, stroll, wheel, volunteer, cheer or make a charitable donation to support this life-changing cause.

More information and registration can be found online at thegreen5k.com.

About My Angel Foundation
My Angel Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on inspiring Iowans to become registered organ, eye and tissue donors. My Angel Foundation was founded by Ted Cochran in January of 2007 after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant. Ted’s loving mother was his donor. With the passion of wanting to honor his mother’s gift, help other transplant patients and their families, and to be an advocate for the very thing that saved his life — organ donation — he founded My Angel Foundation.
