It’s time for 4-Hers to start gearing up for the 2015 Greene County Fair! All youth exhibiting any beef, dairy (cattle and goat), meat goat, rabbit, poultry, sheep, and swine animals at the Greene County Fair and Iowa State Fair must attend a training (or test out if able) to become certified in the 4-H FSQA program. Upcoming test dates include Monday, February 16 from 2:00-4:30 pm at the Extension office. Kids need to RSVP to the office by calling 515-386-2138 or email email@example.com. Training dates will be coming in the February Newsletter.
4-H / FFA Swine Weigh-In will be Saturday, March 7 from 8:00-10:00 am at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Only youth that enrolled in the swine project will receive the weigh-in mailing in February, so make sure you are enrolled in the Swine Project through 4-H Online.
Clover Kids is starting in Greene County! Kids will love learning using a fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education) curriculum. Greene County K-3 kids started meeting at Jefferson Elementary on Wednesday, February 4th from 2-3:30 pm. Please check with the Extension office for possible late registration. Paton-Churdan begins meeting Wednesday, February 18th from 2:30-4:00 pm at the Churdan Community Center. Enrollment forms and $10 enrollment fee are handled through the Extension office.
Master Gardeners is planning for its annual Community Event. The evening’s speaker will be Nicole Jonas of Red Granite Farm in Boone County. They grow and sell fruits, vegetables, and hardy perennials both at the farm and at North Grand Farmer’s Market in Ames. Make plans to join us Thursday evening, March 12th at 7:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
Continuing Instructional Courses (CIC) for Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicators are scheduled for Spring 2015. Cost is $35 per course. Contact the Extension office to register. The schedule includes:

Ogden Marketing Group has 2 programs scheduled this spring. On February 12, Steve Johnson and Chris Beavers will present “Managing Revenue Risk & Using Precision Marketing, and March 12th Elwynn Taylor & Steve Johnson will present “Crop Weather and Market Outlook: Strategies and Tools.” Both program begin at 6:30 at Leonard Good Community Center in Ogden. February 23rd is Crop Fair at Ogden. Featured speakers are Antonio Mallarino, Rick Cruse, Sciota Trading, and Craig Johnson and the program starts at 9 am. RSVP for lunch and program by February 18 to Boone County Extension at 515-432-3882.
