Family friendly

Posted February 11, 2015 in Community Featured, West Des Moines

On a particularly cold and wet Sunday, my family and I decided we needed a fun meal. We had heard that Cowboy Jacks in West Glen was a family friendly restaurant so we decided to see for ourselves.

We drove right up and luckily found a spot very close to the door. We ran in and stomped our feet on the large door mat as we waited at the hostess stand to be seated. The restaurant was pretty bare except for one or two tables of friends devouring appetizers and drinks. After a few minutes, we were seated at a table right next to the door.

With a view of the large restaurant, I could see a spacious seating area full of booths and tables with a bar that commands most of the space in the back. Large windows line the outer walls with a view of the West Glen area. I could imagine a wonderful, sunny atmosphere on a warm, summer day.

We ordered our drinks and poured over the large menu. I chose a nice macaroni kids meal for my toddler and decided on the Smokey Chicken Flatbread for myself. I was surprised at the large array of sandwiches, appetizers and pizzas. There was also a great Rehab Menu which is served only on weekends from 10am-2pm. It was filled with breakfast items, some unique and some tried and true.

We all ordered our meals from our sweet and smiley waitress and sat back while we waited on our food. I noticed the restaurant was beginning to fill up with more lunch-goers and some sidled up to the large bar to have drinks and watch games. There were many televisions on the walls sure to please the sports lover.

Very shortly, we were served our meals on hot plates and assured that we had everything we needed. My flatbread looked cheesy and filled with fresh ingredients. Covered in chunks of chicken and bits of onion, I was excited to devour it all. My first bite was warm, packed with flavor and the flatbread was soft and buttery.

After we all thoroughly stuffed ourselves and requested boxes to take home our leftovers, we paid our bill and packed up to go. We left along side a few other diners and decided to return again soon. Cowboy Jacks is a great place to go for a relaxed, comfortable meal.
