
Betty was born February 5, 1922 in Adel, Iowa to Harley and Arlene (Ferguson) Hutchens. She joined two brothers and a sister. The family later moved to the country west of Dallas Center where she attended school and graduated in 1939. She worked as a sales clerk and switchboard operator and at the Ordnance Plant in Ankeny.
On October 11, 1941 she married Harold Stump of De Soto. They lived in Adel, California, New Mexico, and De Soto. In 1950 they moved to their new home in Dallas Center, which Harold built. Betty was a homemaker, but in 1968 she went to work at Parker Brothers in Urbandale, retiring in 1980. Betty enjoyed camping and spending time with family.
Betty is survived by her children Bill (Beth) Stump of Diagonal, Owen Stump of Van Meter, and Jennifer Scott of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter-in-law Jane Stump of O’Fallon, IL; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, son H. Dennis Stump, and her sister and brothers.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Dallas Center or to Spurgeon Manor in Betty’s name.
