The Urbandale Education Foundation offers a second scholarship program, the Brad Peyton Memorial Fruit of the Spirit Scholarship, to Urbandale High School students
URBANDALE, Iowa – February 6, 2015 – The Urbandale Education Foundation (UEF), a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the educational experience of students in the Urbandale Community School District (UCSD), announced today that Urbandale Dollars for Scholars® is offering a second scholarship program, the Brad Peyton Memorial Fruit of the Spirit Scholarship, to Urbandale High School (UHS) students. Beginning today, UHS students will have the ability to apply online www.Urbandale.DollarsForScholars.org by creating an online profile, which enables students to apply for and be matched to multiple local and national scholarships. The UEF raised the funds for the new Peyton scholarships by hosting a memorial golf tournament this past June in Peyton’s name, and is honoring his legacy in supporting Urbandale schools by offering two $2,000 scholarships to two graduating UHS seniors.
Peyton was a 24-year resident of Urbandale and a devoted husband, father, friend and community supporter. Peyton made a positive difference in the lives of so many as a coach and board member for Urbandale Little League, a co-founder of the Shining City Foundation, a key political strategist and an advocate for the UCSD. Peyton died in September 2013, at the age of 56 following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Urbandale Dollars for Scholars encourages students to begin developing their online profiles now, to assure they are alerted about scholarship opportunities in advance of deadlines. In addition to scholarships, students will also have access to exclusive volunteer and internship opportunities that may be available to them, as well as a wealth of financial aid and college success tools and resources provided by Scholarship America®.
The UEF is in the unique position to provide support for Urbandale schools, award scholarships to UHS graduates and connect Urbandale alumni through the recent merger and partnership of three organizations: Urbandale Education Foundation, Urbandale Dollars for Scholars and Urbandale Alumni Association. Urbandale Dollars for Scholars is part of a nationwide network of community-based scholarship chapters. It is a program of Scholarship America, the nation’s largest non-profit private-sector scholarship and educational assistance program, and is the oldest Dollars for Scholars chapter in the state of Iowa.
The mission of Urbandale Dollars for Scholars is to mobilize the Urbandale community on behalf of postsecondary education success for students in the Urbandale Community School District.
