2015 is well under way. So far, with a few exceptions, the weather has been fairly mild. Hopefully that will continue. To do my part, I recently purchased a new snow blower, which should guarantee us no snow for the remainder of winter! I always consider the second week of March as the beginning of the warm up. I always notice this because my son’s birthday is in early March. If that holds true, we are not too far from the light at the end of the tunnel.
In the meantime, please consider attending a Johnston Chamber event. We are holding our annual chamber dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of 2014. The dinner will be held on Thursday, February 12, at Stoney Creek Inn with food catered by the Radish. At the event, we will recognize our 2014 Business Person of the Year, Jim Israel, former president of John Deere Financial. Our Citizen of the Year, Doyle Sanders, Beving, Swanson & Forrest, P.C. and Ambassador of the Year JP Pearson of Charter Bank. All three of these recipients have made a large impact on the community. If you see them, please thank them for their work. This community continues to thrive due to the hard work of individuals like Mr. Israel, Mr. Pearson and Mr. Sanders. Please contact Heather Goodwin at 276-9064 to reserve your spot by February 5th.
The annual dinner is one of many events sponsored by the Chamber. Make sure to go to our website www.johnstonchamber.com, and/or like us on Facebook or follow us on twitter to learn more about all of the upcoming events.
We recently completed the development of the 2015 Chamber Directory. It should be shipped to your mailbox in the next few weeks. The directory will provide a helpful guide for local businesses, the city and the highly rated Johnston Community School District. Keep an eye out for the directory and we hope it is helpful. If you would like additional copies, for example, to provide new employees, etc., please stop by the Chamber office and we will be glad to supply additional copies.
Finally, I want to thank the new members that have joined the Chamber. Please welcome:
Advance Services, Christopher’s Fine Jewelry & Coins, CrossRoads Shooting Sports, Herrmann Family Chiropractic, MidIowa Ducks Unlimited, The Radish Dining & Catering.
Mac Braun, Agricredit Acceptance
