Marilyn was born in Fort Totten, ND on July 29, 1931 to Lawrence and Edna (Nelson) Johnson and moved to Des Moines from Tama, IA in 1949. She completed a year at AIB and worked at the IRS, Northwest Fabrics, and as a nursing communications secretary for Mercy Hospital for eleven years. Marilyn was a member of the Dowling Club, Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and the Rosary Confraternity.
Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory include her husband of 52 years, Michael; three daughters, Karen Kelleher and Patricia (Jim) Jessen of Altoona and Marie (Mark) Pinkerton of Madison, WI; son, Louis (Kay) Kelleher of Des Moines; brother, Lawrence (Fran) Johnson of Shawano, WI; five grandchildren: Corey (Jamie) Kelleher, Michael (Lizzy) Kelleher, Christopher (Jessica) Jessen, Matthew Jessen, Katie Kelleher, and Joseph Pinkerton; two great grandchildren: Roman and Cora. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Patrick Kelleher; her parents and her sister, Shirley. Her family will always treasure the memory of her love and laughter.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 30 at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel with a rosary at 5:30 and a vigil service at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
