Don’t have plans this Valentine’s weekend? No problem! This year get your female on! It’s Galentines Day! The Basement Bar at Des Moines Social Club hosts an all-female lineup of national and local comedians this Friday, February 13th at 9pm. It’s a rare event not to be missed!
The line-up features the some of the funniest women in the Midwest! From the west comes Lincoln, Nebraska’s own Annie Hildebrand (Triple Eh Comedy) and Georgia Rae (nominated for Best Comedian in Omaha 2014). East from Chicago comes Katie McVay (Chicago Underground Comedy at the Beat Kitchen, co-creator of The Comedy Exposition <http://comedyexposition.com/> , Chicago’s premiere DIY comedy festival) and Stephanie Hasz (The AV Club called her one of “the city’s most exciting up-and-comers,” and Time Out Chicago described her as displaying “a fury and vulnerability rarely seen from female comics.”). Rounding out the evening are local Des Moines comedians Madeleine Russell, Kate Bennett and Rachel Weeks.
Let’s also not forget, the evening will be hosting by the one and only…Cupid!
Galentines Day is sponsored by The Des Moines Stand Up Comedy Scene, which is committed to the craft of standup, to diversity in the voices represented in that craft by fighting racism, sexism, homophobia, and prejudice through acts and advocacy, to building the city’s performing arts scene, and to making people laugh.
The Basement Bar is located at The Des Moines Social Club under the Kum and Go Theater at 901 Cherry St. Tickets are $8 at the door. Cash only bar!
