GRIMES, IOWA – Grimes Chamber & Economic Development (GCED) will honor a select few individuals and businesses at their Annual Dinner & Awards Presentation on the evening of Thursday, January 22nd at Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center in Johnston, Iowa.
Kelley Brown will be recognized as the Citizen of the Year. Ms. Brown serves as the City Administrator for the City of Grimes, but she was chosen for this honor in large part due to her volunteerism at numerous organizations throughout the community including Grimes United Methodist Church, Grimes Kiwanis Club, Grimes Volunteer Support Services (GVSS) and others.
Katherine Southmayd was named the Grimes Educator of the Year. Mrs. Southmayd is a Kindergarten Classroom Teacher at South Prairie Elementary School in the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District. She has taught in the district since 2007. She was nominated by one the students she currently teaches.
The title of Ambassador of the Year will be bestowed upon BobbiJo Wolfe. She ownsand operates Community Greetings, LLC, a company that personally welcomes new residents to the area and shows them what the community has to offer. The GCED Ambassador Group was created in 2011 and the award was earned by being involved and attending many events throughout the course of the year.
Performance Display is this year’s Grimes Business of the Year. The company is located in Grimes Business Park and was founded in 1994. Performance Display designs and manufactures custom product displays for companies far and wide. Since 2002 the company has been owned and operated by President Melissa Lewis and her growing team of employees. Through acquisitions and growth they have expanded the number of services available to their customers. For several years they have also hosted the annual event “Experience Grimes; A Tasteful Business Expo” for the members of Grimes Chamber & Economic Development.
