“Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.”
– Psalm 33:3
There is great joy to be found in rejoicing, singing, and partaking in fellowship with one another. One local church is making learning and worship fun for all ages with an annual tradition that draws in crowds of all ages. Music, performance, food and fellowship are all on the menu one night a year at Augustana Lutheran Church—and it’s all for a great cause.
“Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.”
– Psalm 149:3
The highlight of fun in February falls on Sunday the 15th this year. It’s a special production that combines many talents—from marketers and advertisers to producers, performers, and chefs. Augie’s Diner isn’t a physical restaurant, but a night of cross-generational fun that can only be found at Augustana Lutheran.
Last year’s event drew in quite a crowd, both on the stage and off. Performers such as the Augie’s Combo took to he stage to boogie the night away with good fun and fellowship. Students catered and served, with parents helping to tie up all the loose ends. A vintage ‘50s soda shoppe theme took center stage at Augie’s Diner last year as students and staff worked to raise money for the ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit. Ticket proceeds from the event went to help send the youth of Augustana Lutheran to Michigan to further immerse themselves in the teachings of Christ.
This year, students are hoping to draw in large numbers in an effort to raise funds to again go towards their Youth Gathering funds. Organizers generally expect upwards of 20 acts to grace the stage during Augie’s Diner, each of them with unique talents and a shared love for Jesus. The goal of the night is not only to entertain, enjoy and partake in good fellowship while praising God, but to contribute funds to Augustana Lutheran’s youth trip to Detroit.
ELCA Youth Gathering
The ELCA Youth Gathering is an opportunity for Christian youth across the country to come together as one to learn and love. The five-day event, set for July, will give students perspective as they continue their relationship with Christ.
Students encourage those of all ages to give Augie’s Diner a try. After all, who can go wrong with food, fun and fellowship?
