A New Year’s Resolution?

Posted January 21, 2015 in Community Featured, Waukee

Greetings and Happy New Year from the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce!  I am excited at the opportunity to serve as your 2015 Board President.

As I reflect back on 2014, overall the year was a great success!  Thanks in large part to my predecessor, Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance, the Chamber’s board members, volunteers and especially Melinda Behn, Waukee Chamber Executive Director, we were able to meet the goals that were identified to be the most important for us to accomplish during our annual board planning session.

You may have noticed the Chamber website received a ‘facelift’ in 2014.  The new website better showcases our growing membership and provides an inviting and user friendly experience for residents, visitors and members that highlights our local business community and all of the opportunities to stay connected and promote business.  We continued to offer exceptional networking events such as ‘What’s Cookin’ in Waukee: A Business Expo and Tasting Experience’, the Annual Golf Tournament and the Waukee Economic Development Bus Tour just to name a few.

For many people, January continues to be the month where resolutions are set for the upcoming year.  I challenge each of you to put the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce on your ‘resolution’ list.  Become more involved with your membership this year.  Attend one extra networking event.  Go to a ‘Business after Hours’.  Try something new; get more out of your membership!

There are so many fantastic events to look forward to in 2015.  Mark your calendars and join us on Thursday evening January 22nd for the Annual Dinner and Silent Auction to be held at the West Des Moines Marriott.  Our keynote speaker for the event will be TJ Tollakson, a business owner and professional triathlete!  Also, the first of three legislative coffee events will held at the Waukee City Hall on February 7th at 9:30 a.m.  And finally the Chamber Networking Luncheon will be held February 19th at the Waukee Community Center at 11:30 a.m.  All three events are a great way to network and develop business relationships while receiving valuable information on what is happening in our community.  For more information, contact us at or 515-978-7115.

I wish each of you a very successful 2015 and I look forward to visiting with you at our next Chamber event!
