As part of this initiative, John Deere is collaborating with FIRST for its organizational values and proven STEM programs that are available to students around the world.

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC®) – Iowa is a robotic competition for middle school and high school students grades 7 – 12 that provides participants with hands-on exploration of the principles of STEM. A total of 25 teams from around Iowa will compete in the FTC–Iowa League Championship at John Deere Financial for an opportunity to advance to the FTC–Iowa Championship held in early March at the University of Iowa.

During the FTC season, teams of up to ten students experience the engineering process firsthand, learning about science, iterative design and programming, as well as the basic tenets of teamwork and gracious professionalism. The season culminates in exciting, sports-like tournaments that allow teams to compete against one another in order to qualify for state and national championships.
