Q: What are some health care tips for my eyes?

A: With January comes new resolutions or goals for the coming year, usually related to health in some way.  Losing weight, eating better, or quitting smoking are common themes.  But have you ever considered your eyes?

We live in a world with constantly increasing demands on our eyes…computers, smartphones, tablets, videos, and games. Not only that, but our physical health can damage our eyes as well.  Diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, medications, even cancer. All these things can impact your eyes, in usually silent, unnoticeable ways.

The best way to keep your eyes healthy is through an annual, comprehensive eye exam. We can determine what glasses prescription you may need see clearly and comfortably throughout the day. We can check to make sure there are no signs of other health issues like those mentioned. If there are concerns about such health issues, we can work with your other doctors to make sure you get the care you need. If there are no issues, we can help your health for the long-term through prevention, early detection, and continued monitoring of areas of concern. So with this new year, make a resolution to give your eyes the healthcare they deserve and get a comprehensive eye exam.
