The Grimes Public Library is excited to start off the new year with a brand new reading program! Book Buddies allows young readers to connect with a teen mentor to work on their reading skills! It also allows teen volunteers to get involved at the library. Book Buddies will meet the 4th Saturday of each month from 10am-noon. Get involved!

Toddler Drive-In: Saturday, January 17th at 10:00am

Enjoy the magic of a drive-in with your toddler! With the help of a parent, each child will decorate their own super-cool driving machine that they can pull up to the big screen for a short show. Limited spots available; registration required.

Book Buddies: Saturday, January 24th 10am-noon

Beginning readers register for a time slot to read with a Teen Buddy. Please call the library to register, 986-3551.

LEGO® “I have a Dream” Contest: Saturday, January 24th 1:00pm

Register to bring in your LEGO® creation to show it off and be judged.  Build at home to the theme of “I Have a Dream.”

RVR Book Club: Tuesday, January 27th at 4:30pm

Watch Frozen and discuss Hans Andersen’s The Snow Queen, which inspired the movie.  Copies of the story can be downloaded for free at  Pizza and snacks provided. $5 fee to help cover the cost of dinner.

Video Game Hangout: Wednesday, January 28th at 1:30

We will have the Wii and Xbox out. Come show us your skills!

Candyland: Life Size Edition: Saturday, January 31st 10am-1pm

Families will get to navigate their way through a life-size Candyland! Stay cool in the Peppermint Forest and try not to get stuck in the Molasses Swamp all on your way to King Kandy and his Candy Castle! No competition; come and go at your own pace!

Adult Book Club: Monday, February 2nd at 6pm

Book Club meets the first Monday of the month. Stop by the library to pick up this month’s title.

Girls’ Night: Thursday, February 5th 4-5:30pm

Come with your friends to paint your nails and hangout!  Make homemade sugar scrub and lip gloss while supplies last.  Drop in between 4-5:30pm. Ages 8+.

Tail Waggin’ Readers: Saturday, February 7th, 9-11am

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog! Students in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade may sign up for a 20 minute time slot to read to a therapy dog partner. Please call the library to register, 986-3551.

LEGO® Catapults: Saturday, February 7th at 1pm

Come learn about and build a catapult out of our LEGO® blocks!

Valentine Crafts: Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30pm

Come make friendship bracelets and other valentine crafts! Ages 5+.

Kids Bingo: Wednesday, February 11th at 1:30

Bingo is back at Early Out Adventures! Come to the library for games and prizes!

Tech Drop-In: Thursday, February 12th, 3-5pm

On the second Thursday of each month, bring in your laptop, phone, tablet or e-reader between 3-5pm for basic computer help and instruction. To ensure one-on-one assistance, register for a 30 minute time slot with Fionn or Kelly.

Cupcake Boss: Saturday, February 14th 1-3pm

A little something sweet for Valentine’s Day! The Grimes Public Library is holding a cupcake decorating competition. Are you a Cupcake Boss? Ages 5+.


Adult Bingo: Thursday, February 19th, 2-4pm

Come for the game, meet new friends, and have some fun! Every 3rd Thursday of the month.

Move and Groove: Mondays at 6:30pm

Ages 2+ can join Kelly for some fun with stretching, dancing, singing and, of course, a lesson or story.

Toddler Time:  Tuesdays at 9:30 and 10:00am

Toddlers 18 months to 3 years old and a caregiver are invited to join us as we introduce literacy and a love of books through storytelling, rhymes, songs and crafts.  No registration required.

Preschool Story Time: Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:00am

Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 years are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts.  No registration required.

Baby Lapsit: Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m.

A time for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers to play and grow through songs, short stories, nursery rhymes, and other developmental activities.  No registration required.

Evening Story Time: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Families are invited to listen to stories, participate in songs and rhymes, and make a craft.  No registration required.

Friday Story Time: Fridays at 10:00 a.m.

Kids of all ages are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts.  No registration required.
