Jerry Van Pelt, age 59, of Boone, died at his home on January 12, 2015.
Following his wishes, he has been cremated.
A graveside service and burial of his cremains will be Friday, January 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter with military honors.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Thursday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Jerry Lee Van Pelt was born in Boone on June 25, 1955, the son of Harold and Patty (Hardesty) Van Pelt.
He graduated from Boone High School in 1974.
Jerry served with the United States Navy from 1977 to 1978.
Jerry was formerly married to Dawn Todd.
He worked as a welder for John Deere in Ankeny and later for Mid-States Steel in Boone.
Jerry attended DMACC in Boone and received a CNA certification.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching sports, and spending time with his family. Jerry also enjoyed baking especially peanut brittle.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Steve.
Jerry is survived by two daughters, Jenna Van Pelt and fiancé John Tieskoetter of Boone and Kayla Young and husband Jon of Des Moines; a granddaughter Paige Young; a brother Mike Van Pelt and wife Julie of Ankeny and a sister Terry Hevelone and husband Gale of Altoona.
