Earnest “Ernie” Janning

Earnest “Ernie” Joseph Janning, age 63, of Glidden passed away at his home on Friday, January 9, 2015.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 13, 2014 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday. Casket bearers will be Steve Scharfenkamp, Louie Tigges, Max Wenck, Scott Janning, Butch Janning, and Shawn Janning.

Earnest “Ernie” Janning

Born on February 22, 1951 in Carroll, he was the son of John and Theodora (Schoeppner) Janning. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1969. Following high school he went to work with his brothers at Janning Brother’s Flooring. He then worked for Hawkeye Flooring for 12 years. Ernie was married to Diane Smith on February 5, 1972 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Ernie started EJ Terrazzo and Tile in 1998 which he currently owned and operated with his son Shawn and daughters Stacy and Jamey. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on cars. Ernie was a hard worker and spent a great deal of time in his shop. He enjoyed getting together with his friends for Saturday morning breakfast.

Ernie is survived by his wife Diane of Glidden; a son Shawn Janning of Glidden; three daughters: Rahna Buschmann and her husband Randy of Sioux City, Stacy Aye and her husband Travis of Carroll, and Jamey Janning of Glidden; six grandchildren: Keagin, Kenton,Kenleigh, Kennik, Gracie, and Allie; a sister Lois Mein and her husband Dan of Leavenworth, KS; three brothers: John Janning and his wife Mary Ann of Carroll, Bernie Janning of Carroll, and Lowell “Butch” Janning and his wife Julie of Glidden; his father-in-law Frank Smith of Elk Horn; a brother-in-law Michael Smith and his wife Sue of Brayton; two sisters-in-law: Jane Faust and her husband Larry of Omaha and Beth Ann Kostopoulos and her husband Rick of Naperville, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence Janning and his wife Jean, a sister Louise Grossman and her husband Darol, a brother Jerry Janning, a brother Kenny Janning and his wife June, and a sister Dorothy Becker, a sister-in-law Arlene Janning, and his mother-in-law Marilyn Smith.
