AMES, Iowa — The Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union is hosting a work weekend for the non-profit organization “Little Dresses for Africa” January 17-19. Hours will be Saturday from 10am-4pm and Sunday and Monday from 1-4pm. Monday is the MLK Day of Service.
Volunteers can assist with making dresses from pillow cases, providing relief and hope for children in Africa. From cutting fabric and ironing to sewing, there is a place for anyone that has an hour or two to spare. Those with basic sewing skills are especially appreciated to help lead the volunteers. The Workspace will provide the supplies, however if you would like to donate new or gently used pillowcases or notions you may bring them that day.
To date The Workspace has sent over 465 dresses to children in need.
There is no charge to participate and no pre-registration is necessary. Find the Workspace at 2229 Lincoln Way on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information call 515.294.0970 or visit www.workspace.mu.iastate.edu.
