What are your expectations for 2015?

Posted January 07, 2015 in Community Featured, Des Moines West

There is truly something magic in the days between Thanksgiving, and our entry to the first weeks of January.

We are grateful for the many fruits and opportunities of the past year, the rush and bustle of the yearend family and spiritual holidays, and the inclusion of   the pauses, stops, and reflections that these 45 days bring.
Those reflections and experiences bring us to the hopes and promises—indeed the chances and changes for an even better coming year.

Just as we as individuals,  as families, and as members of business or other teams, we as the West Side Chamber of Commerce go through this same process of reflection and building aspirations for a more energetic  and productive coming year,  in our hopes for  2015.

The year 2014 will be remembered as a year where our membership mushroomed as more of our area’s businesses joined our effort and mission of serving our community by supporting the unique quality of life and commerce that defines the Des Moines West Side.  As members of the Chamber, we are grateful for that.

We are also grateful for the many new and improved opportunities that either started —or noted considerable progress in 2014.

The major construction at Ingersoll and MLK
The Renovation and Restoration efforts at 3801 Grand Avenue
The infrastructure improvements underway in the Beaverdale Business Area
The Renovation in the Roosevelt Cultural District including the Des Moines Community Playhouse
The completion of the new bridge at 63rd and Grand and the resilience of the businesses in that area
The significant improvements at Merle Hay Mall including the new entertainment opportunities promised by FLIX Brew House

As we look at each of these, we are challenged to use these changes and improvements, to further the Chamber’s Mission.  We hope that you will share your views to advance the economic and commercial opportunities of our community.  We promise to listen.  We promise to invite and encourage your engagement in these challenges.  We want your help and leadership in preserving, but also advancing the Des Moines West Side that we have grown to know and love.

We hope that you will join us for our Annual Victory Celebration at FLIX BrewHouse on February 10.  You are also welcome to join and participate in our Legislative Events at Java Joes from 4:00pm-5:30pm on January 13 and February 12 as well as our other events in 2015.  Check them out at our website.
