The Urbandale Community School District will hold a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) special election on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015. The PPEL is a voter-approved levy that serves as one of the primary revenue sources for funding school infrastructure. If passed, the Board of Directors will match the PPEL with a bond refinance in order to keep the facilities property tax flat. Some of the proposed improvements the revenue would be used for include a remodel of elementary buildings, an increase of classroom space to be consistent throughout K-5 schools, the construction of gymnasiums at two elementary buildings and the construction of a fitness center at Urbandale High School. The PPEL is projected to provide $10.7 million to $14.5 million over its 10-year span. For more information, see www. UrbandaleSchools.com/PPEL.
